Yesterday afternoon we had clear weather and my in basket was as clear as it was apt to get, so after lunch we went to work on trying to clear away the brush generated by the previous day's partial trimming of the old apple tree.

After around 5 or 6 hours of this yard work, we put away the tools and called it a day. I've been trying to watch how much I lift at one time, given my back injury last year, but I'm still pretty stiff and sore. But I also know that the exercise is good for me. I logged more than 11,000 steps yesterday, most of them moving around in the field carting brush. The weather is even better today than it was yesterday, so I expect we'll be breaking out the tools again today and tackling the trees once more.

Lisa cooked us a hearty breakfast this morning before we attacked the apple tree. We spent most of the day hacking away at the tree with the pole-axe, bow saw, and branch trimmer. Lisa was up in the tree for several hours sawing away, while I tried to reduce branches down to 1.25m-long pieces that fit easily in the rolling carts.

Although the tree is now properly trimmed, we ran out of time and energy before we could clear all of the brush, and we won't have time to work on it tomorrow, so I'm afraid much of it is going to have to sit until I have time to come up and help again. Lisa may also be able to do some work on it now that it's safely on the ground. Chopping away at the brush pile with a pair of clippers isn't the most exciting work one can do, but it's relatively easy and safe enough, unlike climbing around in a rickety old apple tree with a very sharp saw.
