Because you may have missed it being buried under other comments from yesterday: the fellow who is convinced that He Knows The Rules Better Than Anyone Else as he continues to tilt after that windmill that any multi-part TV episode longer than 90 minutes must never be in Long Form because He Says So has explained further about how he speaks for SFF Fans better than "Hugo Fandom," which is clearly out of touch since they don't do what he tells them to do.

On the Move
Sep. 2nd, 2011 03:08 pmAlthough I set off a flurry of messages earlier today, I'm now heading north on the first leg of Moving Daze Round 2, and for the next few days may be relatively difficult to contact. I'll check in when I'm in places with connections, but if you don't hear from me as quickly as usual, don't be too concerned.
Kuma Bear reports that Lisa seems to have all of the packing at Mehama under control, so all we have to do tomorrow is get the rental truck and load it. With luck, we'll be done by tomorrow evening and will therefore be able to set off south early and not get into a hole the way we did in Round 1.

Travel Fun (Not)
Sep. 2nd, 2011 06:02 pmThe first leg of this trip was simple; walk to the Amtrak station and catch the train up to Oakland Coliseum station. I found myself helping people going to Sacramento buy Amtrak tickets from the ticket vending machine (so they wouldn't have to pay the penalty fare for on-board purchases). Other people, seeing that I seemed to know what I was doing, converged on me. They wanted to go to Tracy and points in the direction of Stockton. I had to direct them to the ACE ticket office (located in the old freight office where SFSFC sometimes holds its board meetings) because you can't use Amtrak tickets to take the ACE train.
( Too much information about travel because I'm bored waiting or a delayed flight )
As I walked over to T1 and Gate 30 for my flight, I got a page telling me that my flight was delayed 30 minutes. I called Lisa's friend Scott up in Portland — Lisa is planning to stop by to see Scott this evening before coming to collect me — and let him know that I would be delayed and to tell Lisa not to rush. I then went down to Gate 30, where there was lots of room to set up on the desks with power that Southwest provides. This is good because somehow I'd not turned off my laptop when I left the house this afternoon, but had only put it in standby, and this gives me a chance to fully recharge it.
I've had worse travel days. If this is the worst drama I have to deal with on this trip, I'll be very lucky.
