Floor Follies
Nov. 16th, 2011 07:07 amLisa reports that while the west side of the repaired section of Fernley House (under her office) is now rock-solid, the east side (under the kitchen) seems to flex more than it did before they replaced the damaged floor beams. She also says that some of the beams were even worse than the one the inspector called out, and that the previous owners must have known about it, because one of the beams showed extensive signs of attempted repairs, including steel tape around three cracks and railroad ties stacked under the repaired beam to try and shore it up. She tells me that she's going to contact the contractor and ask if anything can be done to stop the kitchen floor from being so worryingly springy.
