Unshopping the Van
Jan. 14th, 2013 09:36 pmI worked from the apartment early and then took light rail and Amtrak up to Fremont to collect my minivan from Cory at Fremont Wheel & Brake. As expected, he'd replaced the starter, and he also had to replace the front-end work that was done to us (sic) in Wells NV in 2008 on the way to Denvention. Cory, my regular mechanic, was dismayed back then at what the people in Wells charged us, and true to form, the total cost of this work (including the new starter), was only $565 and he threw in a front-end alignment for nothing extra.
I've said this before, but Cory is good, and from the collection of vehicles at his shop, I reckon he's pretty well set even without significant advertising. It's so nice to have a mechanic who charges a fair price for good work and who you can trust.
The bad news: I need new tires, and fairly soon. Here's hoping the current set hold on until my next trip home for the first week of February.
