WSFS Business Meeting: How It Works
Aug. 9th, 2013 08:08 amPeriodically I write about the forms, structures, and procedures of the Business Meeting. If you're a long-time Worldcon "insider" or have been reading my journal for a long time, you probably already know this, but OTOH I have found long-time attendees who had no idea of some of this stuff, so there's always someone new to the party.
( It's a participatory democracy, not a representative republic. )
If you want to see what a past Business Meeting looked like, here are links to video of last years' meetings:
Preliminary: Part 1 Part 2
Main: Part 1 Part 2
Site Selection: Part 1 Part 2 Part 3 Part 4 Part 5
(The Site Selection Meeting has more-but-shorter pieces because we were trying to get each Worldcon group in their own segment.)
The Minutes of the 2012 Business Meeting (PDF) are on the WSFS web site. The minutes contain the written reports that were submitted to the meeting, the text of motions introduced, and the results of what happened to each proposal. Generally, the minutes are a record of what was done, not what was said.
That's all I have time to write about today. If you have questions, post them here. I may write more about Business Meeting structure and rules soon when I get the chance.
