Reno Weekender

Well, just Saturday afternoon and evening, actually. We went in to Reno where I bought a new watch (my old one has broken off it wristband in an unrecoverable way), then we shopped for jeans for Lisa (she's delighted that Lucky Brand has started sourcing its jeans in the USA again). After that, it was off to the Peppermill for dinner (taking advantage of the 10% "locals discount" for which I now qualify on account of being a Northern Nevadan) before waddling off to Winco for grocery shopping (no food looks good after having one's fill at the seafood buffet, which tends to cut down on the impulse buying).

Meanwhile, tonight we have no trains and probably won't until tomorrow morning. If I understood the radio traffic on the scanner correctly, after Amtrak #6 (the eastbound California Zephyr for Chicago) went by this afternoon, Union Pacific closed the tracks for 16 hours in order to repair a stretch of track that has had a 10 MPH speed restriction on it that might explain why the westbound Zephyr has been two hours late the last few mornings. I'm guessing that they were able to divert freight traffic through Feather River Canyon.
