Yesterday I set another piece of my summer travel plans in place when I made our reservations to visit the Nevada Northern Railway in East Ely, Nevada. We'll leave from Westercon on Sunday afternoon and drive to Ely, where we're now booked to spend two nights in the bunkhousenot a night in the caboose. While we've stayed in "caboose motels" before, the "real caboose" experience is like dry camping in an RV and isn't really what we want to do. The museum's bunkhouse, however, is more like some of the dorm-style arrangements we've had at some conventions, and is exceedingly convenient for taking their steam train ride on Monday as well. Tuesday, we'll head home over US-50, a trip Lisa has done (and that [livejournal.com profile] lisa_marli and family are doing the opposite direction on their way to Westercon) but that I have not over the "Loneliest Road in America."

The pricing on the train rides and bunkhouse stays is such that it was cheaper to also buy a membership in the museum on account of the discounts exceed the cost of the membership.

The only downside to this trip is that we'll not be able to hang around for the end of Westercon and the Dead Dog party this year on account of we've a 250 mile drive to Ely to make that afternoon.
