When I was a 14-year-old going to high school in Bishop, I had people asking me to buy fireworks for them. I said, "You have to be 16 to buy fireworks in Bishop."

"But you're 18, right?"

"Nope. 14." They couldn't believe it.

When I was 19, I looked sufficiently old that was able to play blackjack at small stakes in Reno. I didn't play slot machines, because there was always a chance that I'd hit a sufficiently large jackpot that they'd have to issue a 1099, which would mean producing ID, which would (at best) result in the jackpot being forfeited.

Well, now that I'm 49, I find myself getting senior discounts applied to my meals without being asked (or without me asking).
