I turned in my work for Day Jobbe on Monday early enough that we had a few afternoon hours available. Lisa and I noticed when we took a short walk after lunch that Wheel Fun Rentals (which rents bicycles and surreys in Seaside) was running a 2 hours for the price of 1 special. Inasmuch as Lisa has been contemplating buying a surrey for running around Fernley, we decided to take one for a spin.

Ding, Ding )

I'm glad we did that rental. If we ever do decide to buy one of these things, the basic model (about $1500) won't do. We'll need one of the seven-speed models with accessories (like rear-view mirrors and running lights), and we'll need one custom made so it's a bit longer and taller to fit our taller-than-average frames.

Monday night, after dealing with some late Day Jobbery that arrived while we were pedaling around Seaside, Lisa and I went out to dinner at the Shilo Inn on the Prom, which gave us an excellent view of the beach as the sun started heading for the horizon on our final night here. The staff were very friendly, and the manager very obliging after I reported (with no rancor) a small rock that had managed to make it into the clam linguini.

After dinner, the timing was just right to walk down to the shoreline to watch the sunset.

Many Others Had the Same Idea )

Tuesday morning we had to be out of the condo by Noon, but that wasn't going to be a problem as we'd done advance packing Monday night and we were up early anyway. By the time I was out of the shower, Lisa had already moved most of her stuff to the minivan and had moved it to the loading zone. Inasmuch as there appeared to be only one or two other people in the complex today, we didn't think we were inconveniencing anyone.

So Now the Sun Comes Out )

We were out of the condo by 9 AM, after which we dropped off the keys and headed toward Portland.

Lots of Stops, and the Van Didn't Like It )

After a relatively short by distance but long by time, we got to the Holiday Inn Express in Albany in one piece, loaded down with the proceeds of our various errands. We made dinner in the room from bread, cheese, and lunch meat purchased at Whole Foods and left over from the condo. We did later go out for one more errand several hours later (and the van started again, it having had time to cool off), but I'll write about that tomorrow.

I've made an appointment with my mechanic for him to take another crack at fixing the van the next time I'm in the Bay Area.
