Train Incident Follow Up
Dec. 21st, 2015 07:49 amI never did hear for certain what caused the train incident just east of Fernley last night, and therefore I only speculate that it involved the death of a trespasser on the tracks. Just before I went to bed, I heard that emergency services had cleared the tracks and the train was released to continue. After consultation with the dispatcher, the crew decided to take the train east (the direction it was originally heading when the incident occurred) to Hazen siding, which is easy to access by road, where a relief crew would be dispatched to take over the train and take the original crew back to Sparks. The line was reopened for normal operations, and Amtrak came through this morning about five minutes ahead of schedule.
