kevin_standlee: (Hugo Trophy)
A few of the people complaining about the Hugo Awards have taken to calling the trophy "a plastic rocket." Well, it's true that a few Worldcons made acrylic plastic rockets for their trophies (with mixed results including yellowing of the trophy rocket), but most Hugo Award rockets are chrome-plated zinc and are actually quite heavy, as we carefully explain on the Hugo Awards web site and as should be relatively obvious from anyone who has ever looked at one. It makes me wonder just how little these critics actually know about the Awards they claim to disdain so much and yet spill so many electrons over.

I once again say that any of these people who are so convinced that the Hugo Awards are so awful and that we need Real Awards for Real Good Stuff chosen by Real Fans that nobody is stopping you from setting up your own Awards. You can go out and do it The Right Way and Show Us All! Oh, you actually just want the people who did all of the work to build up the Hugo Awards to give it to you and your friends, and you can't be bothered to do any actual work? Well, good luck with that.
