Van Retriviel Redux
Oct. 18th, 2019 05:45 pmEarly this afternoon, Lisa (who has mostly sleeping days and thus was not really at her best) and I drove in to Reno in the Rolling Stone to claim the Astro from the repair shop. As she expected, the leak was due to hoses not being correctly coupled, causing leaks only when the engine was cool. (When it was warm, the valve feeding the loose hoses would close, and thus nothing would go that way.) They did tell me that there is a tiny leak in the rear heater area, and that fixing it would be pretty complicated due to the way the way it works. I explained our plan to drive to Albuquerque this December and asked that if it were his vehicle, would he be worried, and he said no, so we'll leave it for now.
After collecting the minivan, we went to AAA to get paper maps. (Yes, paper. They work even when your phone dies or you don't have cell phone coverage.) Then we had some grocery shopping. We briefly considered stopping for dinner, but Lisa really wanted to get home and go back to bed. I wish I'd checked the traffic, though, as there was an accident at the Nugget in Sparks, leading to a long backup that I could have avoided had I know about it. Still, we did actually miss the worst of the Reno/Sparks commute and got home before 4:30.
