Quiet Valentine's Day

With rain and wind on Sunday, we stayed inside and did not do a whole lot. We spent some time going through our photos, in particular what we call the "money shot" from our trip to the Seikan Tunnel between Honshu and Hokkaido during our Japan trip. (Now that the Shinkansen has been extended through the tunnel, they no longer have the two trains a day that stop at the tunnel station. Apparently you can still get the tunnel tour by going to the Tunnel Museum, but you can no longer get there by train.) I do miss being able to get out and travel and do things.

I still think that a train stopping in the middle of an undersea tunnel to take on a passenger would make a splendid opening for a suspenseful movie.

Agreed. As I'm sure Lisa has told you, the passengers on board the train we boarded after the tour looked puzzled as to why the train was stopping in the tunnel. In retrospect, instead of riding from the tunnel station to Hakkodate and then back to Aomori, we probably should have checked out of our hotel in Aomori, ridden to the tunnel and stored our bags in the racks provided (who would have been able to steal the bags?) and then spent the night in Hakkodate and continued on to Sapporo the next day, saving us the back-tracking.
