Short Convention
May. 1st, 2020 08:28 pmFour years ago, I was the Parliamentarian of the Lyon County Democratic Party Convention. (A rather frustrating experience in that it was more difficult to convince people to follow rules than it is at a WSFS meeting.) This year, because of the COVID-19 restrictions, I am still a delegate to the County Convention, but there's no in-person convention. (I signed up as an alternate from my ward, but apparently not enough of the originally-selected delegates confirmed, so the party selected me as a delegate from Lyon County Ward 40.) Today I got my delegate credentials, and this evening my "convention" lasted five minutes as I signed in with my credentials and cast my votes on the party platform, central committee membership, and presidential preference. All neat and clean and painless, and nowhere near as exhausting as the process was four years ago, but not quite the same nonetheless.
