Snow? In June?
Jun. 7th, 2020 06:07 pmA few days ago, I dropped my smartphone. I've taken that phone a lot of places, including multiple trips to Europe. I dropped it several times while we were on the "Golden Circle" trip in Iceland, but every time is landed on its side or back, merely chipping the case in places. This time my luck ran out and it landed face down and put a clean break across the screen. It still worked, but it should be replaced. So today, Lisa and I drove to Reno and dropped it off at Batteries Plus, which does screen repairs, then headed off to do other errands. I'm glad I stopped at B+ first because they said they could have it done in a couple of hours.
As I was coming back out to the van, I opened the door (Lisa had stayed in the van) and said, "Oh, look, it's raining. No wait, that's not rain. It's snow." Sure enough, light snow was falling. Not a lot, and it did not last, but it was snow.
We did our errands at the Home Depot, Whole Foods, and Raley's South Reno (because we're fed up with the lack of care about safety from the Fernley store), then went back up to Sparks, paid for the repairs to the phone, and drove home. We were bucking wind and rain in the Truckee River canyon, but we got out ahead of the slow-moving storm and got home with enough time to get the van unloaded (and Lisa's pickup put back in the garage) before the rain hit.
After the rain stopped (not the wind, though), I went outside and saw something relatively unexpected on the Pah Rah Mountains for June.
( In the Sierra Nevada, Yes, but Not Here )
I'd seen reports of snow in the High Sierra overnight, but I didn't expect any of it to get this far. And it's 10°C here, so I definitely don't expect any of it to reach the valley floor where we are.
It's been cold enough that I seriously considered restarting the fireplace. I'm trying to hold off, though, because this cold won't last and it will get hot very soon, which is why we've been working on the Swamp Thing.
