The early-summer heat has been hovering in the high 30s°C (nearly 100°F), but we had a break yesterday.

Rainbow Over Fernley )

The rain was nice in that it knocked down a lot of the dust in the air and significantly cooled things down. However, we saw a whole lot of cloud-to-cloud lightning to the point that there was near-continuous thunder for a few minutes, and if any of that jumped to the ground, it could be really bad. I'm sure the fire department was on alert, but I didn't hear any call-outs for fires.

Lisa and I have an important errand to run today that requires me to take a half-day off from work and drive to Truckee. That will be our first time in California all year. Yes, we have our face masks. The only times we haven't worn them outside of the house has been when we've been walking and staying well away from anyone else. What with the wind and dust we've been experiencing lately, we've been wearing the masks on our walks then even if there is nobody in sight, just to keep from breathing the fine dust that is endemic to our area. (People who attend Burning Man will know what it's like; Fernley is part of the huge ancient lake bed that includes the Black Rock Desert.)
