Broken Rail Follow Up

This afternoon, I noticed that one of the Union Pacific track maintainers was parked in the Fernley Yard. I put on my face mask, walked out to him, and told him about the broken joint plate that we'd observed a few days ago. Although UP is not responsible for the "House Tracks," (BNSF is responsible as part of their trackage rights agreement), he said that he would go inspect it and report it to BNSF. Nobody wants a rail to turn over, especially when the tracks hold cars of things like natural gas and sulfuric acid.

BNSF contracts out maintenance in this area, so I hope that we will see a contract crew out here soon.
