One More Day
Nov. 15th, 2021 03:40 pmTomorrow is the deadline for submitting new business to the 2021 WSFS Business Meeting. Or, as I put it on Twitter earlier today, you have one more day to make my life more complicated this year.
Besides all of the material that CoNZealand passed through that they got from Dublin 2019, we have a few re-ratifications, as constitutional changes made some years ago came with "sunset" clauses that require this year's meeting to re-ratify them or else they will revert to what they used to be. That includes the Lodestar Award, which will have to be re-ratified this year or else this year will be the last year of its existence.
There are only a few pieces of new business this year, and most of them are some minor technical changes proposed by the Nitpicking & Flyspecking Committee. But because there are so many ratification items on the agenda, I expect that we will end up holding an "overflow" meeting on Sunday, the last day of the convention. I hope it will not be a very long overflow meeting, though.
I have pointed out in several places that once the privileged business is complete (that's the election of members to the Mark Protection Committee, Site Selection, and final votes on anything up for ratification, the meeting can adjourn sine die at any time thereafter even if there is new business on the agenda. If that happens, anything that hasn't yet been dealt with "falls to the floor" (dies), although like all other business, it can be re-introduced next year. I've never seen a WSFS meeting actually do a final adjournment without at least having a vote on every proposal, although sometimes debate has been minimal as people get tired and want to just finish everything. It's always technically possible, though.
