I apparently did actually relax last night, as I woke up at 8 AM after some ten hours of sleep. There was no point in fretting over things about which I could do nothing, so I ignored my issues with the minivan and concentrated on taking advantage of an extra day of vacation. I got dressed and got breakfast from the hotel breakfast bar. (I did need to wait a while to allow a crowd of people to disperse.) I think I got my money's worth, and even exercised a little bit, taking the stairs from my fourth-floor room.

Checking my email, I confirmed that my coworker who is covering parts of my job will be able to do so on Monday, which is a relief because there really is no way that I could do it, not without my work PC, which I did not bring with me as I was trying to avoid traveling excessively heavy for what was only supposed to be a two-night weekend stay.

On the subject of traveling light, there was the matter of laundry. I only packed a small back with a single change of clothes (not including my Giants gear for the baseball game I didn't get to attend), and I won't know until sometime tomorrow morning whether I'll be able to drive home tomorrow or will need to stay longer while waiting for repairs. So I bought some quarters and laundry soap from the front desk of the hotel and did a small load of laundry.

While waiting for the laundry to run, I changed into my swimsuit (which I'd remembered to bring), went to the pool and soaked in the hot tub for a while. That was nice, although I had to wear my street shoes because I'd forgotten to bring my beach shoes; the hotel lobby is hard stone floor, and I don't want to have to walk over that in bare feet.

With laundry done, it was time to walk to the convenience store a few blocks away and buy some groceries for today and tonight. While doing so, I reminded myself to keep all of the receipts, because I may be able to claim on my AAA trip-interruption insurance for the extra hotel nights and meals. If so, it will once again make my AAA dues worth a lot more than what I pay, ignoring the value of the included towing and other services.

This room is not a bad place to have to stay for an extra day or so.

My mind did keep clicking along trying to think of ways I could make myself useful. I remember that there was a WSFS-related report that was due this weekend, so I sat down and combined my part with material that Cheryl Morgan provided, and sent it off to the committee involved for review.

And speaking of Cheryl, she has published issue 42 of Salon Futura, which includes not one, but two separate reviews of Westercon 74: Cheryl's review of the online programming of Westercon 74, and John Hertz's review of the in-person convention, both of which I appreciated because they both gave me insights into part of the convention that I personally did not see.

Tomorrow morning I'll be up a bit earlier so I can be on the phone to the repair shop as soon as they open and ask them to try and diagnose the issue with the minivan and let me know if I need to further extend my hotel stay, or if they think they can get me rolling by mid-day.
