Birthday Cookies
Jan. 17th, 2023 06:44 pmYesterday was Lisa's birthday; however, yesterday's snowstorm precluded us going out and doing what Lisa originally planned in Reno. She put off the trip until this afternoon.
What Lisa wanted as her birthday present was a cheesecake from the Manhattan Deli at the Atlantis Hotel-Casino. Possibly some of you who attended the Reno Worldcon ate there, and maybe you tried a slice of their very good cheesecake. So once I got off work, we headed to Reno.
After a stop in Reno to dump recycling (which was starting to accumulate), we went to the Atlantis. Unfortunately, it turns out that neither the Manhattan Deli nor the adjacent sweet shop had whole cheesecakes, and only a few slices were available. Apparently if you want a whole cheesecake, you need to make an advance order, as they get them from a specialty supplier from New York. I offered to buy whatever slices they had, but Lisa said not to bother, and she worked on other plans.
We went to Cost Plus World Market, where we bought the remaining bottles of Curiosity Cola (which she likes a lot) and a few other things. Then, on a whim, she asked if we could go have a look at US Foods ChefStore (the wholesale grocery store where we bough many of the things we served at Westercon 74). She wasn't sure why, but while we walked through the store, she figured out what she wanted as a replacement for the missing cheesecake.
( Second Best )
We headed home and actually managed to get here before sunset. The roads between Reno and Fernley were clear and dry, but side streets (like where we live) are still icy with touches of snow. Tomorrow we're expecting a bit more snow, after which it may stay clear for a few days.
Oh, and Lisa let me have a few of the cookies she made from her birthday present.
