Yesterday, [personal profile] solarbird asked how big the East Lot is. I took a photo of the pair of lots as best I could. It's hard to do because it's too wide for a still shot and I haven't been able to figure out the panoramic setting on the camera.

Land to Spare )

The East Lot is approximately twice the side of the original House Lot. I say "approximately" because Front Street (in the foreground) cuts diagonally. That's because the lots are all surveyed on a true north-south alignment, while the street parallels the railroad and thus runs at an angle. Both lots are therefore rectangular with an angle on the north side. According to the county's website, the total combined area of the two lots is 0.167 ha. (Google is your friend if you want to convert hectares to some other unit of measurement.) This area was all Central Pacific Railroad land, which was part of their land grant when they built the original transcontinental railroad. Thus our title to both properties extends back to the CPRR.
