kevin_standlee: The SERVICE ENGINE SOON indicator light on Kevin's Chevrolet Astro minivan. (Service Engine Soon)
Today, Lisa worked on the Astro while I edited Railway Legends, Myths, and Stories. I think we're close to having a completed episode, but as usual, it takes around one hour to edit one minute of video, especially inasmuch as this episode has a lot of video, not just still shots, to edit into it.

Lisa put some tape in the place where she thought the rattling sound was happening, put the "doghouse" cover back on, and we went for a short test drive up on to I-80 west. As soon as the van got over about 50 mph, the rattle started again. We exited at Wadsworth to circle back home and Lisa got an idea. A little experimentation showed that the rattle only seems to happen once the van is going 50 mph or more, and it fades away at slower speeds. Lisa now thinks that the rattle may actually be coming from the failed EGR valve, given that it only runs the internal tests when the vehicle speed exceeds 50 mph (and the internal pressure exceeds 40 kPa). There's nothing more we can do about that until the new EGR valve arrives later this week.
