Saving Wood
May. 6th, 2024 01:14 pmIt was cold enough overnight and this morning that, if it weren't for the forecast of temperatures above 30°C in a few days, I would have got the fireplace started again. But when my fingers started getting numb, I had to do something. I've had the electric space heater in the family room unplugged since the temperatures have reliably been above freezing, so I brought it into the living room and set it up in front of the fireplace. I was a bit concerned about whether it would overload the circuit, what with the computers and other thing plugged into it, but the breaker did not pop, and it managed to get the room warm enough that the feeling came back into my fingers again.
Temperatures tonight and tomorrow may touch 0°C, but then they turn the corner and start heading toward the levels where we have to consider getting the swamp cooler ready to go. In a few weeks, I'll probably be thinking fondly of these cold mornings. In the meantime, I'd prefer to preserve our firewood for use this October or thereabouts.
