Worldcon Trip Day 44: Final Days
Sep. 5th, 2024 05:30 pmToday is my last full day in Ammanford before we start heading toward London tomorrow for my scheduled Sunday late morning departure. (More about that tomorrow.) That means pulling things back together and doing more packing, particularly in light of what happened yesterday with the aborted plan to mail a box home. It also means reviewing my travel arrangements and doing things like feeding a copy of my passport into the United Airlines app to (theoretically) speed things up at the airport.
I have a long layover at Denver (more than five hours) on the way home. I'm considering if it might be worth paying for a one-time pass to the United Club ($59). I've been there before when I got access from having a first-class seat on a flight to Canada. I used to have a United credit card that came with two club passes, but I wasn't flying often enough to justify paying the fees on the card, and I've been trying to cut back on my amount of credit cards.
One thing that just dawned on me today is that I'll be getting in to Reno at 20:30 on Sunday night, which is 04:30 the next morning from the time zone in which I will have started my day. From there, I have to get a taxi to the Reno Amtrak station (my minivan is parked in the garage across the street), then drive the 50 km home. I do not know in what shape I will be. I could get a hotel room, but Best Western (there's a SureStay located literally across the street from Reno Airport; I have walked it before) won't let me into their website unless I disable my ad blocker, and the Holiday Inn Express is $170/night, which seems a bit much to me. Still, I could re-evaluate the situation when I get there late Sunday night and see how I feel then. If I'm lucky, I'll be able to get some sleep on the 9-hour flight from LHR to DEN.
