I spoke with Lisa this afternoon. She took a day trip out of Munich today down to Jesenice, Slovenia, via Villach, Austria, thus collecting one more country on her trip. She seemed to have a good time. It's good that she's getting value out of that first class Eurail pass.

One thing she says that is mildly annoying is that many of the train managers/conductors insist that she must write in every single segment of her trips on the Eurail pass, "because that's how the passes work," even though the instructions on the passes say that this only applies to the "X days out of Y" passes, not the "2 consecutive months starting on date Z" type, that being what she has. Because of the officiousness of the officials, she's had to get additional pages for the pass so that she can include all of the trips, long and short. She hasn't kept track of all of the trips, but it seems highly likely that she'll have made trips costing far more than the $800 that the pass cost. Admittedly, we bought the pass we in advance during a sale period, but nonetheless, for making plenty of trips around Europe, it looks like that has worked out pretty well. It would have worked better if we hadn't wasted the first two weeks of the trip getting her housing sorted out. It got easier after the H.ome Serviced Apartments were able to fill in a gap so that once we got her into their hotel, she wouldn't have to check out again until they leave.

(The lesson here is to learn how places like AirBnB work and read the listings extremely carefully and understand what each time of accommodation is, lest you end up spending a bunch more money on account of having to cancel, move into a hotel, and forfeit a month's rent while you sort things out! It would have been worse if I hadn't had a very large pile of IHG points.)

My job on this trip has been to book hotel rooms at places that require overnight trips out of Munich, the next one of which starts Sunday. However, I'll have more to say about that once they return.

Meanwhile, on the home front, my leg has healed sufficiently that I think I might actually be able to make a full shopping expedition to Reno this weekend rather than just limping out for perishables every day or two.
