Ozempic

While we wait for instructions from Renown Health for Lisa's physical therapy for her shoulder, I am entering a new phase of treatment for my Type II Diabetes. My doctor has prescribed Ozempic, which instead of a pill to be taken once or twice a day like the other medications, is a once-a-week injection, package in a pen. Today was the first day I injected myself, so I had to work out how to use the injection pen.

The instructions say to inject it in the fatty part of my thigh (and to not repeat locations), once a week on the same day. Each pen is good for five doses, so it comes with five sharps that snap onto the end of the pen and that I dispose of (in a sharps container that I already have for my diabetes test lancets) afterwards. This being my first time, it took me a while to get it sorted out, but eventually I got it done.

The injections didn't hurt like I thought it might; in fact, it hurt less than when I do a blood test with my test kit, probably because fingers have more pain receptors than thighs do.

The medications comes in a cold box, and the instructions say to keep refrigerated (not frozen) until first used, and that after the first use, I can store it at room temperature or refrigerated. I guess when traveling I will have to get one of those packages to keep the pens cool, and now having a refrigerator in hotel rooms is more than just a convenience for keeping drinks cold.
