We have been flying our US flag on the porch since it became clear who won the Presidential election and when we could start trying to reclaim the flag from those who have been treating it as the symbol of only one type of American. I generally go put it up in the morning after I've showered, and sometime in the early evening we take it down, because we don't have a continually-illuminated flagpole. Other people around here have had their US flag, with a "Don't Tread on Me" flag under it (another sign IMO of their politics) flying continuously without illumination and flying in any sort of weather.

A few days ago in the heavy thunderstorms we had, their flagpole snapped and fell across their garage. It's hard to fathom that they've not noticed this, as we see them walking to and fro nearby it. The flags that were hanging from the pole are haphazardly and in my opinion disrespectfully draped off their garage and down to the ground. If our flagpole had fallen over like that, we would have cleaned it up and cleaned the flag if possible, not just let it flap about in a heap.

You could leave a polite (but anonymous) note telling them it's not respectful of the flag and see what happens.

Agreed. It appears to me that most people who call themselves patriots just want to be able to have as many guns as they want. They care little about the Constitution aside from the second amendment, and less about democracy.

You are a rare, true patriot, Kevin.

Aside from the Flag Code question, I think I would be at least as uneasy at having a broken flagpole lying across a structure on my property, as I would a broken tree branch. It's not sound, from the point of view of keeping up the place.
