A Long Way

I ran into Sparks this afternoon to get the oil changed on the Astro. As has become common, the staff at the quick-lube place marveled at the mileage: now more than 494,000 miles. It is the van's second engine, but there are now more miles on that engine than the original one. I bought the van used, so I don't know how well it was maintained, but I know that I've been fairly rigorous about regular routine oil and other fluid changes on the vehicle, which is why I think it has held together as well as it has.

It occurs to me that my car is closing in on 186,000 miles; I should share the accomplishment when it reaches its first light-second of travel.
