Early Snow

This early-season snow that came over the mountains yesterday was colder than I expected. Overnight, chain controls started all the way to Gold Ranch (where we bought the lottery tickets yesterday), which is Exit 2 on I-80 westbound in Nevada, but labeled as "Exit 207") on the CalTrans chain control Twitter feed, presumably because their system can't handle exit numbers in other states. Around lunchtime today, that part of the storm reached Fernley.

I was surprised that we got a bit of "corn" snow (balls instead of flakes), as I did not think it was cold enough for snow just yet. It definitely wasn't cold enough for any of the snow to stick, as the thermometer out by the patio registered +5°C.
