A few days ago, I realized that I had lost one of my key rings. There was one important key and some others that were less so. The important part about the missing key is that it is not one that I can just go down to Big R and get a new one cut from the one remaining key because it is a specialty blank not normally stocked. We used to have a locksmith in Fernley, but not any more. Lisa and I were considering our options on this, including possibly even replacing the entire mechanism just to get a new key for it.

Yesterday, I made a very welcome discovery.

Key Discovery

While walking out to the Astro to go run an errand, I found the missing key ring near the van. I think what must have happened is that last week, before the snow started, I dropped this key ring while pulling the keys to the Astro out of my pocket and I did not notice it. Then the snow started later that day and the area was covered in snow, hiding the ring. Yesterday's rain and slightly warmer temperatures melted the snow that had lingered here, uncovering the key ring.

I've put this key ring in a safe place with other key rings because I don't use the key in question very often. I'm also tracking down a specialty locksmith that can make some copies so we have more duplicates for the key should we need them.

When I lost my keys, I didn't have a backup car key, and as my car was parked in an airport park and ride lot at the time, that caused untold problems. (Well, actually told problems, because I told about them on DW at the time.)
