Good Day to Fly

This Labor Day holiday weekend has reportedly been very busy; however, traveling today by air out of San Jose turned out to be pretty good, as I had hoped.
I was the only person booked for the hotel's 5:45 AM shuttle to San Jose airport, so when I came down to the front desk to check out at 5:30 am, the drive offered to take me there immediately.

I did get a picture of the VTA light rail maintenance rebuilding of Karina Station starting their work to tear up and replace the tracks/ties/ballast. It looks like they've got it so that they can do one station per day, having started at Gish, moved on to Metro/Airport, and now working on Karina.
The airport was not busy. I checked my luggage and got through Terrorization pretty quickly. I was airside a full two hours before my flight time, giving me a chance to get breakfast. I was surprised that the restaurant didn't offer refills on coffee.
I was flying Southwest Airlines and my boarding card showed that I was in the A (first) boarding group. As the flight started boarding around 7:30 am, I found that everyone was in the A group, as there were only 25 passengers booked for this flight. Boarding was a cinch. Everyone had lots of room. We left around five minutes early, the flight was a breeze, we arrived early, and even though I'd gone as far back as they would let me, I was off the plane seven minutes before the 9 AM scheduled arrival time.

I did not rush to baggage claim, and it had moved so quickly that by the time I got there, all bags had already been delivered and I had to go to the Southwest baggage office to claim my bag. I went out to the curb, where the overcast skies made it comfortable to stand. A few minutes later, Lisa arrived to collect me. She'd been up most of the night, so I drove us home.
It was not raining at the airport, but it did rain as we drove home, and we've had showers off and on today, although not when I made a quick run to Grocery Outlet to get some milk and other groceries. I'm happy for the cooler weather, but goodness only knows how they are going to get people out of Black Rock City with the place apparently a morass of mud due to the unseasonable wet weather.
Me, I'm glad that I traveled today during the eye of the travel storm, and that tomorrow is a holiday for me.
