Roof Repairs, Day 2

Getting a long enough ladder to reach the upper floor of the house proved to take longer than the roofer had expected, so he did not get to work until the afternoon.

He decided to concentrate on the shingle and roof fascia fixes on the west side of the roof. The facia here had blown loose once before shortly after we bought the house, and the contractor we hired then nailed it back into place. In the latest storm, it started to fail a second time.

This time, the roofer bought replacement fascia covering that both adheres to the underlying wood and that he nailed to the underlying wood.

Above the window is the roughly 10' x 30' section of replaced singles. He says that we probably need the entire roof redone, which is likely to be more expensive than we can afford right now.

As the sun headed for the horizon, the roofer made a start on the gutter replacement on the east side. This turns out to be the most difficult part of the job, as it's hard to get the ladder in a place where he can put the new gutter where it belongs.
With the light failing, he called it a night and told me that he would be back to, we hope, finish the job today.
