Cottonwood Clearance

Yesterday evening, Lisa broke out the extension cords and the reciprocating saw and reduced the larger branches she cut off the cottonwood tree a couple of weeks ago down to pieces small enough to transport. She has also during the past couple of weeks been cutting back the weeds to form a firebreak between the East Lot and the fence separating it from the original property.

I got the wheelbarrow and moved the cottonwood pieces to the wood box. I expect that letting them try all summer will leave them suitable for burning this autumn, and may provide us with a day or so of heating.

I further made myself useful by moving the piles of cleared weeds to the brush pile, where we will burn them with the other yard debris we've been clearing. The brush pile is already as large as the one we burned a few weeks ago.
It's just barely possible that we'll have the energy to burn the current brush pile tomorrow. Residential burning permits expire at the end of May. Burning is (sensibly) prohibited between June 1 and September 30.
