Several months ago, Lisa suggested that I let my hair grow longer. She likes it better that way, and the practical idea was to let it cover more of my neck and protect against sunburn. Well, I have been generally happier with the longer hair, but it was getting really frizzy even though I wash and condition in regularly. I therefore decided to try getting a haircut from the new shop that opened downtown a few months ago called The Parlor. I made an appointment and went there this afternoon. I've never seen a barber shop with a pool table in it before.

Before the Cut - Front

A front view is easy, and you may see here how my hair was flaring out.

If I hadn't just washed it this morning, it would have been much wilder.

Before the Cut - Rear

While I'm mostly bald on top, my hair was making an effort to reach down to my collar.

The barber said that much of my hair was pretty dead on the ends and ended up cutting it back farther than I had hoped he would.

After the Cut - Front

I'm not all that pleased with the result.

It's more controllable now, but I was trying to see what it would look like longer.

After the Cut (Rear)

He did leave it long in the back, relatively speaking.

This was not the best haircut I've ever had. The barber was nice enough, and the shop is nicely appointed, but I don't think I managed to communicate my intent sufficiently. Oh, well, it's back to letting it grow out again. I haven't had long(ish) hair since before I was a teenager, but I don't mind experimenting. It's only now that I think I might have been better off doing more twenty years ago to prevent my hair from going away on top, although that would have probably needed serious medical and hormonal intervention, such as possibly Finasteride, based on my family history.

Does Lisa use a nicer conditioner than you do? If so, borrow it and see if it helps. You want something that controls the frizz without making your hair feel greasy.
