For those of you on my friends list, thank you for the kind words about Kayla's visit yesterday. The amount of support I've received has been very heartening. I'm glad I have you as friends. I even had some kind words from one of my cousins, which confirms to me that I have a good family.

For those of you only following me on LJ: I did not cross-post the friends-locked entry because I stopped maintaining the friends list on LJ. I only cross-post because I long ago bought a life membership on LJ and I'm still making use of it.

Overnight, it got pretty cold here, and freezing fog rolled in. This covered everything in ice, and made footing treacherous. Both Lisa and I slipped multiple times on the sidewalk and steps, but fortunately neither of us got hurt.



I (carefully) walked to the Wigwam this morning and had breakfast. Dawn was breaking as I came home and took this picture of a rime-covered Fernley House. Incidentally, it seems like work on the building in the West Lot has been suspended after the collapse of the structure during construction.

After a few hours, the sun burned off the fog and melted the ice, and I was able to get out to the stores for a few things. I then refilled the wood box in the living room, which got down to zero overnight. The fire did not go out, and I could have gotten wood from the reserve supply on the front porch.

Do you both have yaktraks or the equivalent? Really helpful on ice.

Maybe you need a second indoor wood box? I worry about you needing to go out to replenish the wood in icy conditions, or face being too cold in the house.

There is a wood box that holds about 3 days' worth of wood located right outside the front door. This is not the large wood box, but a smaller one that is relatively easy to access.

The small cardboard box inside the house holds 24 logs, which is around two days' use at the moment. The only reason we ran out this morning was because Kayla didn't want to go out and bring in more wood, even from the porch box, and we knew I could get more logs in the morning.

Thank you! It was a great day, although a tiny bit cold, about which we'll do something before the next time she visits in cold weather.

Thank you! I hope to see Kayla more often now that our weight is down. She might even come to a convention sometime in the future, if the conditions are right and if trans people aren't declared to be illegal and to be targeted for rounding up into camps by Glorious Dictator's brownshirts.

not on the friends list, so I didn't see the post, but I'm glad you've got friends and cousins who are supportive of Kayla's visits! Nothing quite like knowing you've got people in your corner supporting you! We attended a birthday party the other day for a young friend who does not have a single person from their family of origin who supports them. As family of choice for them, we do our best to fill the void left by parents who abandoned their daughter who is living her best life, and we are proud of her! I'd second the vote for yaktraks or similar for walking on ice. Be safe!
