We're Number One

My job can be frustrating at times, but overall I've always found Menlo Worldwide and our parent company (Con-way, formerly CNF, formerly CNF Transportation, formerly CF, formerly Consolidated Freightways; "Who cares; they're always changing corporation names.") to be a good place to work. And it seems others must think so, too, because Con-way was ranked number 1 in Transportation and Logistics on Fortune’s 2007 List of “America’s Most Admired Companies”.

Con-way is not the biggest player in the transportation industry, nor is Menlo the biggest third-party logistics provider in the field, but I think we are among the best, and I'm proud of the little part I do to make sure we stay that way.

Best Companies to Work For

My company, Perkins Coie, ranked in the 100 Best Places to Work For. I don't remember this year's number off hand, but we've been in the top 50 at least once.

Also, last week, the firm was mentioned on NBC News as part of a series on happiness. We have a "Happiness Committee," and one of our Chicago partners was interviewed. I was on vacation at the time and just happened to see the news item. Since I was on the East Coast at the time, I called some workmates on the Left Coast and told them to be sure to watch for it.
