Yesterday morning, coming in to the office through light rain, I walked through the lobby, which has what I consider to be uselessly polished floors. As I rounded a corner heading for the stairs, I slipped and fell rather hard on my left knee. It took me a minute or so to gather myself sufficiently to get up. I limped up to my desk. I was okay later, although my left ankle started bothering me a bit when I went out for lunch.

Over dinner, I noticed that a large bruise was forming on my left hand. And when I showered this morning, my left knee was also showing the effects of what was obviously a harder knock than I realized. Fortunately I didn't break anything, and while I've got purple splotches, I'm not in any pain or anything. I got lucky, I guess.

I had a similar experience, but on concrete, when I was visiting my father in Florida last month. I spent five hours in the emergency room because I was afraid I had broken something. My hand was swollen, and my jaw hurt (I hit the point of my chin, and the pain went all the way up to my ear.) Luckily, the x-rays said nothing was broken.

Take care! We're getting too old for the falling down trick.

"Break a leg" is just an expression! Really, trust me on this. There are too many fans on scooters at WorldCon already.
