[I composed most of this message just before midnight last night, but when the internet access cycled for the day, I decided I didn't want to pay another $10 and put off posting it until today. As I didn't see any internet charges on my bill, maybe access was actually free to their elite frequent-stay members, even though I had to click on a "yes, charge me $10" button in order to connect.]

Because I didn't get to bed until 4:30 AM Sunday morning, I slept in until 10 AM. Lisa and I then walked over to the Peninsula Grill for breakfast, and then we came back to the hotel, got my van, and drove up to my office, where I worked on placing more pieces of the Westercon PR, cleaning up the site selection ballot, and printing some more drafts.

Then it was back to the hotel, where the BayCon meeting was in progress. I took a seat over to one side, and after the main meeting broke up, gave the necessary people copies of the draft PR and got their feedback, and also talked with some of BayCon's technical people about Match Game SF.

In the evening, the last two ads for the PR arrived. I'm now missing only two pieces for the PR. The plan is for me to finalize the layout on Tuesday -- if articles due in my hands by COB Monday do not arrive, I will re-use material from PR 1 or write my best guess -- and hand over PDFs of the main PR and the site selection ballot (which is supposed to be tipped into the center of the PR) to my management on Wednesday. That will give them enough time to get it printed and mailed before the Bylaws deadline of May 15.

Once I've handed that over, I can then give [livejournal.com profile] dsmoen all of the individual articles in their final form (as well as the entire PDF) so that she can get the articles and the entire PR up on the Westercon web site.

It's been a fairly busy weekend, and we were thus not been able to take full advantage of all of the amenities of the hotel. However, after walking over to Fresh Choice again for dinner, Lisa and I hit the hot tub for a while. She doesn't want to get any water in her ears, so the main pool is out, but the hot tub is okay. By the way, compared to the dinky tub at the Doubletree San Jose, the hot tub at this Marriott is a lake. And it's nice and hot, too, not like the "tepid tubs" we've found at some hotels.

Internet charges

Were you supposed to get the internet access free because of your status?

In which case I can easily see the internet access system not being connected to the front desk system, and it's all on automatic; the front desk computers will know to not charge you for the internet, while the connection you see in your room doesn't know it's free.

The internet access system is bluffing: It's really saying "This will probably cost money, typically $10/day. If you click OK, then I will tell the front desk to bill you for this 24-hour period's rate."

I don't know. I didn't see it in the list of perks for Silver Rewards members, but it might be there, just not documented. Not that I'm complaining!
