(Yes, I know that Champ Car isn't F1, but that's the only racing-related icon I had in stock.)

I was originally considering going to Saturday of Con-X-Treme, but I have heard way too much discouraging information about how it's being run, and moreover, there's almost nothing in the program to interest me, other than hanging around with some friends and going to the BASFA party. And I have a pile of other fannish work that still needs doing.

So this evening, [livejournal.com profile] dave_gallaher called to offer me a ticket (standing room, which may be a tad difficult, but I'll survive, I guess) to this Sunday's San Jose Grand Prix, as well as to drive us both down there, as he's got a place he can park.

I decided to let Con-X-Treme pass, spend tomorrow trying to get the fannish work done, and take in the Champ Car race in San Jose. I've never been to a serious motor race before. Now, where did I put those earplugs?

You'll need the earplugs. I live 10 miles from the race path and I can hear the cars from my front yard.

Rats, I left the earplugs in my desk at work. I'll have to go buy new ones tomorrow.

I work 10 blocks away. I can hear it there if I'm outside, and earplugs at the site are advised, but it's no louder than any other motorsports.

*nod* I work on the 10th floor at Post & Market. I described the sound to [livejournal.com profile] gridlore as "bees on some serious steroids."

You're a hell of a lot closer than I am. This the block that used to have the MacWhirters and now has Rokku Japanese?

I'm directly across the street from Rokku and Le Boulanger. ;-) It's a great neighborhood; I'll miss it. (The non-profit I work for merged with its Peninsula-based counterpart at the end of last year; both offices are moving into new digs in Mountain View in - eep! - two weeks.)

Hm, I should stick my nose out. We live real close by. But I've just been avoiding it. It's easier that way.
(Leigh and W San Carlos - It is REALLY Right down the street from us.)

Enjoy!

I thought that you'd appreciate this much more than me. I passed on the ticket because I am now going through doctor's treatment with my plantar fasciitis. I am certain I wouldn't be able to stand for long under the current phase of treatment.

Given that I'm also fighting plantar fasciitis, I'm a bit concerned about my ability to be on my feet that long myself. I hope there will be areas where there's some place to take a load off my feet at times.

Well, I got my foot "taped up" today with orders to do certain things, so I am fairly certain my pain level would definitely excel what I am normally dealing with.
Very painful now, and I have to do the Gift Faire tomorrow at Moscone. No way to get a cane or a scooter, pout.
