NEW WEB SITE TO CELEBRATE SCIENCE FICTION AWARDS

Hugo Award the preeminent science fiction award for 54 years

The Hugo Awards, one of the highest honors in the field of science fiction and fantasy, have a new official web site at http://www.TheHugoAwards.org. The Hugo Awards honor the best in written and dramatized science fiction and fantasy as well as other categories. This new site serves as the definitive site for information about the Hugo Awards, including historical winner and nominee lists, pictures of past Hugo Award trophies, information on how to nominate and vote for the Awards, and an explanation of the rules and procedures for the Award.

The Hugo Awards are named for Hugo Gernsback, who, in 1926, launched Amazing Stories, the first major American science fiction magazine. First presented in 1953, the Hugo Awards are presented by the World Science Fiction Society (WSFS). The members of each year's World Science Fiction Convention ("Worldcon") nominate and vote on the awards, which are presented at a ceremony which is the high point of each year's Worldcon.

Past winners of Hugo Awards include authors such as Isaac Asimov, Sir Arthur C. Clarke, Robert A. Heinlein, Philip K. Dick, Anne McCaffrey, William Gibson and Neil Gaiman. Hugo Awards have also been given to movies such as Star Wars, Blade Runner and The Lord of the Rings, and TV shows such as Star Trek, Battlestar Galactica and Doctor Who.

The 2007 Hugo Awards will be presented on September 1, 2007, in Yokohama, Japan, at the 65th World Science Fiction Convention, also known as "Nippon 2007". The Hugo Awards web site currently lists this year's nominees and will list the winners shortly after the conclusion of this year's Hugo Awards Ceremony.

The existing main web site of the World Science Fiction Society at http://www.wsfs.org/ remains active as a source of information about the World Science Fiction Society, its rules, and information about past and future Worldcons, while the new The Hugo Awards site will concentrate solely on the Hugo Awards. The new site was designed by a WSFS committee that was charged to undertake actions to promote and expand the visibility of the Hugo Award.

(Postscript only in my own LJ: The HASH committee set up by WSFS last year has been working on this for some time now, and I'm really happy we were able to get it rolled out before Worldcon.)

Little problem with contacting...

I went to contact us to inform of an error, fillew out the form...and got an error message. At that point, I realized that rather than being a form e-mail page, it was a posting to the blog page. Oops, but no harm done, there was an error message.

Copied e-mail address to send e-mail about the error. Got a bounce back message saying I wasn't approved to post to a list and my message was being held. A little confusing.

Discovered that despite the error message I received from the reply form, my comments were in fact posted to the Contact Us page (although it still stated, when I looked, that there were no comments on the page.)

The bounce comment came from hash-bounced@lists.noreascon.org which added a little to the initial confusion.

Yeah, the HASH (Higher and Stronger Hugo) Committee's e-mail list is hosted from there for various reasons starting with "get it done now."

Thanks for bringing the corrections to our attention; as you know, we're working on them.
