Why Yes, Our Lights Were Out...

...because we went for a walk around the Fremont/Centerville area from 8 PM to 9 PM tonight. I said to Cheryl, "Isn't that cheating? The City of Fremont didn't turn off the streetlights." Cheryl pointed out that we were simply taking advantage of lights that would have been on whether we were there or not. The point of Earth Hour wasn't really to sit home in the dark, but to make a point about energy usage.

Besides, after all of the potato chips I had before dinner, I really did need to get out for a walk to burn off some of that blood sugar.

World Horror Con in Salt Lake City, UT, this weekend had planned power outages. Friday night the power company was shutting down their power for some reason around 1130pm, then again around 3am Saturday. We were up for both where 3am really was 2am. It was interesting sitting in Hospitality Suite in the dark for the first one, then the lobby for the second one. Neither had anything to do with Earth Hour and neither blackout lasted enough to total one hour, but it was interesting.

My town did not participate in Earth Hour nor did anyplace in Maryland. Maryland is a pretty left leaning area and that kind of surprised me.

My only regret was being unable to find a working Kleig light that we could actually lug up the stairs and use here without blowing the fuses throughout the entire building. (Then maybe the big naked woman in the uncurtained window in the apartment across the backyards could spend time looking OUR way for a change!)
