Ugh

Among the various medical things I did yesterday was my annual flu shot. I assume it's a coincidence -- I have never had a significant reaction to a flu shot before that I recall -- but today I have been feeling worse and worse as the day goes by. Sort of generally achy and tired more than anything else. Hope it's not serious -- I have to fly to Chicago next Wednesday for a training class on Thursday (returning Friday), and I don't like traveling while sick.

Do you know which type of flu shot you got? Some of them use a weakened instead of killed virus, which makes the antibodies stronger but can make you have flu symptoms in the short term.

I think I have the weakened-virus version, which would explain why I'm not feeling so well today.

All the shot variety that are given by injection are killed virus. Only the type of flu vaccine that is given as a nasal spray is attenuated.

Per the CDC, the killed-virus variety -can- cause a mild, 24 hour reaction (low grade fever and muscle aches,) the symptoms of which should be easily controllable with Tylenol.

Ah, well, that makes sense, and yes, mine was by injection. Good to know I should probably feel better tomorrow. Thanks you.

>>I have to fly to Chicago next Wednesday<<

Fly, bah! You know perfectly well that the California Zephyr goes directly between San Francisco and Chicago. (Never mind the fact that its schedule is, ahem, rather free-spirited.)

Trust me, I'd go that way if I could. Heck, the Zephyr even stops in Naperville, which is the city in which I'm actually staying! But getting back to the Bay Area for the Saturday morning meeting of SFSFC might be a bit of a problem, not to mention getting any work done on Monday or Tuesday.

Now if they had wireless internet on the train, so I could work on the two travel days, I might well have been tempted to try taking the train one way and flying back the other.

Why are you returning Friday - that's when WindyCon starts.

1. That's how long my company will pay for me to be there.

2. There's an SFSFC Board of Director meeting on Saturday, and I'm the the corporate Secretary. (And also the person who sets up the meeting room.)
