Blackout!

I rushed to get down to Santa Clara from San Mateo for the first of BASFA's Hugo Award Recommendation nights, but when I got to the Coco's in Santa Clara, I found the power was out and a sign in the door announcing that they were closed due to power outage. Rats! Besides the waste of time swinging so far south before heading back home to Fremont, there's the matter that we already had to squeeze our normal three weeks of Hugo Award discussions down to two -- tonight and next Monday -- on account of I'll be gone the last half of February and not available to do the discussion leadership and the accounting. That is, I'm the one who records all of the recommendations, collates them, and posts them to hugo_recommend and basfa. So now it looks like we'll have to do it all in a single night.

I work just down the road from there (Kifer @ Wolfe), and had just been dropped off back at my car from a Burning Man meeting about an hour ago. I was swinging down Lawrence to grab a late dinner from the McDonald's at the other end of the parking lot...so imagine my surprise when I found it to be pitch black!

Sorry you wound up getting pulled so far out of your way.

Kuma Bear is sad you couldn't do BASFA. Power is funny thing.
Sometimes it's there, somtimes not. Sort like fish.
