Deer Me

Just before 8 PM this evening, I finally got to leave work, leaving as I normally do by the stairs from our second-floor office and exiting through a side door. As I opened the door, I came nearly face-to-face with three deer that were grazing outside the door. Well, they might have been three or four meters away, but the moment I opened the door, they lit out around the building and down the hill. It startled me, but I recovered and crept slowly around the corner of the building and peeked around it the way they went. There were a total of four deer, now settling in and nibbling on the iceplant that covers the hill facing. I tried to keep still, but the deer looked at me nervously. Not wanting to disturb them further, I slowly backed away and headed to my van. I wish I'd brought my camera with me, though.

Say hello. Yes a camera would be nice.
Lisas has told me she is looking for a camera
for Kumas Bears. It handy to have one handy.

If you want more of this, come move out to my neck of the woods.

Aww!

There isn't enough tree cover to attract deer near my workplace, but I've seen coyotes a few times when walking to the bus stop in the evening.

Startled deer are dangerous. A story was related to me about one that jumped on a car hood, doing hundreds of dollars of damage, then blundered into a hedge, making a hole in the foliage and almost ripping a shrub out of the ground.
