From their newly-launched twitter feed:

"Hi all, this account is for the Kansas City in 2016 Worldcon bid unofficially announced at the Raleigh NASFiC."

Guilty as charged. The bid is being run by [profile] npulsifier, (Jeff Orth), Ruth Lichtwardt and myself. It's early days of course, so I can't say much, but I can say that it will be downtown and that the Kansas City Convention Center is gorgeous.

I hope you guys get decent rates for downtown KC. I was really excited with a KC Worldcon bid back for 2009, but really would love to see what it could offer again.

We hope so too. Again, early days, so I can't say much, but the numbers we're seeing are very encouraging.

So who do we contact to offer up help? I'd love to get involved in this.

We haven't set up email accounts yet, but for now emailing teamlol(dot)sf(at)gmail(dot)com will do the trick. And we're grateful for the help.

they have a web domain too. kcin2016.org. Nothing there yet but a holding page, but that's certainly mostly acceptable at this point.

Mmm Barbecue.

I've started making my own rub and smoking various cuts of meat on the weekends now.

They kept it a pretty good secret during the convention. This is the first I've heard of it.

Is this KC, MO, or KC, KS?

Any more details yet?

It must be Missouri, because they're talking about using the Kansas City Convention Center, and there isn't such a facility in Kansas City KS. This would be different from the previous KC bid, which was for the facility in Overland Park KS.

Yes it is a bid for Bartle Hall (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bartle_Hall_Convention_Center) and environs (KCMO). Five hotels are involved (And the disclaimer here is "involved?" we are 2 years out from the launch of the official bid, 4 years away from a vote and 6 years away from a potential convention. Super secret plans are still under way.) The Marriott Downtown which incorporates the old Muehlbach, the Crown Plaza Downtown, the Holiday Inn Aladdin, the Hotel Phillips and the Hilton President. Down town was recently revitalized after years of neglect (decades? Hasn't been the same since 1976?) with the new "Power and Light District" all within easy walking distance of the Convention Center. This is google-able for a list of restaurants and such. The Hotels are all within two blocks.
