The worst problem was that the person in front of me did a full recline on his seat as soon as we were off the ground
I've had that happen to me a few times - and I'm a bit smaller (or at least shorter) and it has still left me cramped. Plus, since I tend to try for window seats, it has a times left me almost trapped and claustrophobic.
Actually the worst time this happened, I was in a middle seat on a winter flight from Chicago to Charlotte with a storm in between, so it was a bumpy flight. To make matters worse, the person in the next seat was nursing either tomato juice or a bloody marry - the smell or taste of tomato juice and tomato soup has made me nauseated since I was 8 or 9 and drank some tomato juice to calm an upset stomach with the opposite results. So between the smell, the motion and being trapped, I was not in great shape by the time I made it to Charlotte.
I also have this problem on the bus many mornings or afternoons. Since I take an express bus with premium seating (basically the same kind of bus used for intercity travel and tours - except with a stop request button), I've had to sit behind seats that were fully reclined - resulting in less space that even in an airline coach seat behind a fully reclined passenger.
