The problem with thanking people in public, like at a Worldcon Closing Ceremonies or a Guest of Honor Speech, is that you risk offending people either by omission or even by inclusion. I've managed to do this. [livejournal.com profile] bindyree takes me to task for this in her comments to my NASFiC Fan Guest of Honor Speech. Lest anyone be able to claim that I'm hushing something up -- who's going to read a thirteen-month-old LJ entry? -- I'm calling it to people's attention currently and apologizing for any offense I gave Brin-Marie by not discussing the several years we lived together and the importance of her work with the MythAdventures Fan Club and other fannish endeavors in which I was involved in that period.

In this LJ entry I talk about my time as the Sailor Jupiter Support Squad, assisting Lisa in her Sailor Jupiter costume. I'm happy to see that Chaz now has a photo of Lisa in that costume, located on this page of his CascadiaCon coverage, or in high-res version. Pity we didn't notice that flyer located on the wall right behind her, though; we might have moved over one way or the other to give a better backdrop.

This costume is, IMO, one of the better representations of the character. You can't see the Killer Shoes in this shot, but they do a much better job of representing how I've seen the character drawn, which is probably why they're so hard on human feet. Incidentally, the answer to the question, "Do Sailor Jupiter's boot laces cross three times or four?" is "Yes."

This is a backdated entry posted on September 26 containing my Fan Guest of Honor speech given at CascadiaCon, the 2005 NASFiC. This is more or less the document I took with me into the speech, with the headings shortened (they were originally an outline of the speech before I wrote it) and some typographical errors corrected. What I actually said when I did it "live" was somewhat different, including ad libs and cuts made on the fly when I realized the 37-page speech was going to run long if I didn't skip forward a bit.

About 7700 words of GoH talk behind the cut. You Have Been Warned. )
