kevin_standlee: (Business Meeting)
As some of you may have heard, Nippon 2007 reported a very substantial loss to the 2012 WSFS Business Meeting, with approximately US$80,000 still outstanding. It may not be obvious that Nippon 2007's presentation is online as part of the video of the WSFS Business Meeting that Lisa and I shot in Chicago. Specifically, N2007's presentation is approximately 15 minutes in to part 2 of the Preliminary Business Meeting video, which I also embed below.

Because it's proving difficult to get the copy of the WSFS Constitution on the WSFS web site updated, this year's Worldcon has posted the current WSFS Constitution on their web site.

Incidentally, I've heard from last year's WSFS Business Meeting Secretary, who is still working on the minutes of last year's Business Meeting. (The WSFS Nitpicking & Flyspecking Committee, which maintains the Rulings and Resolutions of Continuing Effect, needs the minutes to produce the 2010 RoCE.) If you're curious about what happened in Australia, remember that video recordings of the Preliminary, Main, and Site Selection Business Meetings are online.

I may be able to post videos of the WSFS meetings at Reno the same day that they happen — the high-speed internet connection at the Atlantis looked promising — but don't count on it. With a hotel full of fans all trying to use the internet at once, the system may well bog down beyond usefulness. Also, the fully-edited versions that I posted to Vimeo from last year's meeting take quite a while to do, so anything I post is likely to be only minimally edited and probably squeezed down to relatively low resolution. Whether or not I'm able to live-stream video the way I did last year is also dependent upon available bandwidth. (I didn't announce in advance that we were live-streaming video at A4; you had to be watching my Twitter feed to know it was happening. I didn't know I was going to be doing it myself until shortly before we actually put it online.)

I've been offered (and I've accepted) the job of Chairman of the 2007 Worldcon Business Meeting, taking place at Nippon 2007, next year's Worldcon. This does mean that I'll be chairing two consecutive Worldcon Business Meetings, which some people say is bad form and/or is bad for the WSFS legislative system; however, Nippon 2007 knew I was chairing the L.A.con IV meeting, I think, and took that into account when they offered me the job, and I'm grateful to accept. (Besides, I chaired the 2002 and 2003 meetings and heard no complaints about consecutive chairmanships then. If it's really that troublesome, surely someone would have brought it to my attention.)

I thank Nippon 2007 for entrusting me with such an important position, and, as I've done in the past, hope to live up to that trust.
