After checking in to my hotel in Yuba City this afternoon, I went out to my van to bring in my luggage to discover that the door handle on the driver's side is broken. I hope it's something that a body shop can fix and that it won't cost me too awful much, but for now, the best way to open the driver's side door is to climb in the passenger side and pull the inside handle.

Actually, because I'm so tall and because of the console between the seats, it's much easier for me to climb in part way on the passenger side, reach over and open the driver's side door, then get out and walk around to the driver's side rather than clamber over to the driver's seat. I'd probably manage it if I had no choice, but I hope it doesn't come to that.

I can tell you from experience that moving from the passenger seat to the driver's seat in a VW Beetle is easier if one takes the exterior route. I've taken the inside shortcut, over the shift lever, and it's definitely the more athletically challenging option.

I had reasons at the time...
