I spent a lot of time today sleeping, but even I can't sleep all day, so I managed to get a bit of record-keeping done for the SF & F Translation Awards and then went out for some minor shopping. Since in a few weeks (assuming I get an opening into the place I'm hoping to move), I probably won't have a full kitchen, I'm taking advantage of still having one to do some relatively adventurous (for me) cooking.

not a full Kitchen? how can they get away with that in a rental apartment?

The place I have my eye on is essentially an apartment building built in the same format as an extended-stay hotel. So the rooms have microwave ovens, 2-burner stoves, small refrigerators, and sinks, but no ovens or heavier appliances. (Some don't have the 2-burner stoves). They are fully-furnished apartments, small, but include all utilities except internet, and they're aimed very much as either "commuter apartments" for people like me — I'm far from the only person working in the Bay Area with a home outside the area — or college students with enough resources for more than a dorm room.

If I can get the rent below $1000/month, I'll stop having negative cash-flow. Yes, $1000/month. The Bay Area is expensive, and rents are rising.
